Such a well kept course. Staff are exceptional, it is 100% accurate to its slope rating. Great place to play. Be prepared for a log jam between holes 14&15.
We play Royal course. Definitely not a "Troon" experience. It is listed as a tier 2. I would put tier 7. We played behind 2 groups of 5 that took forever to play. Group of 7 played behind us. Golfers driving all over tee boxes and all around greens. Here is pic of them on tees.
Doesn't seem to be a dress code here. Course was in ok condition, definitely not what we expected for a Tier 2 Troon course.
No Marshall on course and a huge disappointment is NO BEVERAGE CART. There is no turn so not even the option to get drinks after you start 1st hole.
I definitely wish we had our money/points back and played a nicer course and facility.
I played the Royal course in January 2023. Coming from Maryland, this is the best course I have ever played. The entire course was very well maintained. I had no issues with any of the tee boxes or greens and the fairways were in the best shape I have ever seen on a golf course. I did have the occasion to experience a couple of the sand traps and was pleased to actually hit out of a bunker that was real sand (in Maryland many of the bunkers are hard as a rock and nothing like what was on this course).
It took a couple of hole to get to them but so many of the holes had the most amazing views it made playing difficult as I was diverting a lot of my attention toward the ocean and the islands in the distance... Yes, that is the excuse I am using for my lousy play!
Check in was fast and easy as there were no issues in the pro shop. I did take a few minutes and use the range and was pleased with how well that area was maintained. If I had any complaint it would be that you can't drive the golf cart to the range area which means you have to pick a couple of club to take with you which limits the amount of clubs you may want to practice with. Not the worst thing in the world.
I did rent clubs from the course and I found them to be decent and was able to play well enough to enjoy myself on the course.
I highly recommend this course.
Had a great time playing the Royal track. Challenging greens, good speed. Love the layout and creativity in the track.
Two nice courses right in the middle of Kaanapali. The Royal has more holes near the ocean but both courses have lots of amazing views of the ocean, Palm trees and the many hotels and condos that line Kaanapali Beach. Both courses have five sets of tee boxes, so you should find a distance that works for everyone. The courses are wide with plenty of room only a few holes that require a shot to a specific location. Course conditions were very good, the traps and the greens were very consistent. There's one clubhouse for both courses and the bar restaurant is Hawaii's famous Roy's. There's a locker room downstairs, a small driving range.
A definite must if your staying in the area. Played the Kai course, the shorter of the two, and less expensive. Conditions are as expected which is excellent. The course is pretty straight forward. What makes it challenging is the uneven fairways and semi guarded greens. Friendly staff look forward to coming back to play the other 18!
Very nice course, but for the price you're paying it is not really worth it in my opinion. The conditions were great and the staff were nice, however, the pace of play was incredibly slow, booked for a 9am on a monday to potentially combat the slow play (5hr round). It's unfortunate because the carts are modern and all have pacing suggestions, but it seems like it's not enforced at all by the club house (no marshal or warnings? Just soft suggestions to "speed up"). At one point, there was a backup of 2 groups on a par 4, which was annoying. Overall, the next time I decide to pay a decent penny, I'll splurge a bit more and hopefully play a course that is a bit more in line with what I am expecting for playing at a "premium" course. If you're there to just have fun and not play golf though it is great lol.
Hard to say because it was raining and windy the day we played. Lots of flooding, cart path only, sand traps were like lakes.
